Restorative Dentistry
Basic Restorative
When bacteria and tartar build-up and remain on your teeth, they can begin to decay. As the decay progresses, a hole or “cavity” is formed. To repair the tooth and stop a cavity from advancing, we will use fillings to help preserve the remaining structure. It also helps prevent further pain and future infection in your tooth. At Oneida Family Dental, we will use a clear resin that blends in with the natural color of your teeth.
Staying on top of your oral hygiene and catching potential issues while they’re in the beginning stages is easier than trying to undo the effects caused by advanced gum disease. It’s also less expensive and requires less time in your dentist’s chair, too.
Treatment
Most dental fillings are relatively quick to install, taking roughly 15 minutes per tooth. First, your dentist will prep the tooth and remove any decay, make sure your tooth is clean, and then they’ll fill in the hole left behind with a filling. Afterward, your dentist may adjust your filling so your tooth’s surface is more smooth and your bite feels normal. Then, your smile is good to go!
You may experience some minor discomfort or sensitivity after receiving a filling, but typically these feelings will reside within a few days. If your pain worsens and you experience severe pain or sensitivity, then please contact your dentist.
