Sedation Dentistry
Comfort
Many patients get anxious when going to the dentist, and we’re here to help ease your mind. We want you to receive the care you deserve. If there is anything that we can do to make you feel more comfortable while visiting us, we’d love to help in any way we can. This may mean explaining the steps of your procedure in detail, bringing in headphones to play music, or even using nitrous oxide sedation if you feel it is necessary.
How Nitrous Oxide Works
Sedation can make your experience in the dental chair easier and have you feeling comfortable and relaxed during your procedure. When you think about sedation, you probably think of being ‘put to sleep with anesthesia or similar. Nitrous oxide gas doesn’t work that way, but you may know it better as “laughing gas.” You inhale the gas through a mask to help relax you, while you may feel disconnected from the environment around you, you will be awake and will be aware of the procedure happening. One of the best parts of nitrous oxide gas is how it is fast acting, but it also dissipates quickly as well, the effects will wear off within a few minutes of being shut off. This allows you to drive yourself home and continue the rest of your day with no after-effects of the gas.
